Pony Stock Rules

1.               ELIGIBILITY

 

1.            Open to any American automobiles provided then comply with and adhere to the specifications is outlined in these rules. No pick ups, convertibles, jeeps, sports cars, station wagons or front wheel drive cars will be allowed. Car must be available in the USA and sold by the American Motors Corp, General Motors Corp., Chrysler Corp., or the Ford Motor Corp.

2.            All cars will have a wheelbase of no less than 90 inches and no more than 104 inches. No car will have more than 1/2 inch difference side to side.

3.            All cars must remain stock for year, make. and model per the                manufacturers original specifications. The only exceptions are those contained in these rules.

4.            All casting numbers and part numbers will remain intact and unaltered to be legal YOU are responsible for what you run.

 

2.            BODY

1.            Body must be complete No alterations or customizing of any kind will be permitted.

2.            Stock front and rear bumper will be used. No reinforcing of bumpers. Bumper brackets may be fabricated from 1/4 inch steel plate. Rear bumper must have straps attaching the ends of the bumper to the quarter panel of the body, is so the bumper cannot be hooked, a loop may be mounted inside rear quarter panels to prevent hooking , an (1/8 inch plate is recommended).

3.            No crash or nerfing bars allowed. No exceptions.

4.            Stock windshield or minimum 1/8 inch thick Lexan windshield must cover all of windshield opening. Lexan rear window permitted. No other glass or window coverings will be permitted. Windshield must be secured by four (4) tabs on the outside and and 2 minimum 1/8 inch by 1 inch steel straps mounted vertically on the inside center. All installations subject to Tech approval.

5.            All interior upholstery must be removed.

6.            Gutting of interior sheetmetal allowed. Front fender wells may be removed. Gutting of hood and deck lids allowed. Stock firewall (front and rear), floor pan, and rocker panels must be retained.

7.               Adequate firewall must be constructed between fuel cell and driver, no further forward than rear fender well with no less than 20 gage steel.

8.            Interior sheetmetal in trunk area may be removed.

9.            All doors must be welded or bolted shut.

10.          Roof must be metal, all other panels may be fiberglass , no exceptions. All body parts and sheetmetal must be secured with pop rivets (no screws).

11.          Removal of dash optional. All sharp metal under and around dash must be removed.

12.          Hood and deck lid pins required. 2 deck lid pins may be used if hinges are used, 2 additional pins required for lift off deck lids. Hoods are required to have 3 pins across the front edge and 2 on the trailing edge if no hinges are used Full lift off hood and fender combinations are required to have 1 pin on each side of the lower rear of fenders.

13.          Removal of antenna, door handles, exterior mirrors, headlights, taillights, chrome strips, and my other exterior glass is mandatory.

14.               Headlight and taillight holes must he covered and show good workmanship.

15.          Stock appearing grill must be in place or 1 inch mesh screen may be used, subject to Tech. approval.

16,          Outer fender well may be trimmed to a maximum of 2 inches tire clearance. All edges must be rolled and show good workmanship.

17.          A maximum of one mirror will be permitted. Mirror may not extend width of car

18.          No spoiler, air dams, or bolt on hood scoops will be permitted.

 

3.               CHASSIS

1.            No alterations, customizing, or reinforcing of the chassis will be permitted No subframes.

2.            Sway bar mounting must be stock metal, teflon, or plastic bushings optional for sway bar. No helm joints will be permitted.

3.            No special springs or shocks will be used. Gas shocks are allowed. One shock per wheel in stock location. Shocks must use stock type mounts. No aluminum leaf springs or spacers will be allowed.

4.            Caster and camber may be changed by normal methods only. No cutting or welding. Solid material may used in place of stock shims.

5.            All cars must have a minimum of 3 inches ground clearance measured at frame crossmember or lowest point.

6.            No spacer plates will be added to leaf springs. You may run uneven amounts of leaf springs from side to side. All leaf springs will be bolted together ad U-bolted to the rear end housing,

7.            All replacement of frame sections must be approved.

8.            No on board adjustable suspensions allowed.

 

4.               TRANSMISSION & REAR END

1.            Rear end and housing and overall width, must remain stock for chassis being used. No interchanging between manufactures lines.

2.            Locking of rear ends permitted. No Detroit Locked. Limited slip, Positrac, Quicktrac, or any other ratcheting, slipping or equalizing device permitted. Steel replacements mini spool OK. No alum permitted.

3.            All driveshafts must be painted white.

4.            Stock clutch and flywheel only. Scattershield, blanket, or 1/4" inch steel plate mandatory for all transmissions. Flywheel may be lightened to a minimum of 14 lb.

5.               Transmission must be stock for make and model of motor and chassis being used. Must have reverse and all forward gears.

6.               Driveshaft hoop required 12 inches from front U-joint, under floorboard, around driveshaft

 

5.               WHEELS & TIRES

1.            You will be notified by Cajon Speedway bulletin as to which tires will be legal for your division. Any tire not approved by the Tech. inspector shall be confiscated. Any unapproved racing tires found on the premises shall result in the car possessing that tire to be disqualified or not allowed to compete in that nights race meet.

2.               Maximum tread width of any tire shall not exceed seven and one half (7 1/2) inches.

3.            Only heavy duty or spoke steel wheels may be used. No aluminum or magnesium wheels will be permitted. Maximum wheel width will be seven(7) inches.

4.            9/16 inch or larger wheel studs mandatory on all four wheels.

5.            All wheels must be of the same diameter and back spacing. No wheel spacers allowed. Valve stem location optional. No bleeder valves allowed

6.            All wheel weights will be on the inside of all wheels.

7.            No electronic traction control devices allowed.

 

6.            FUEL & FUEL CELL

1.            The word "fuel" as used shall be understood to mean automotive gasoline as defined by ASTMD-4.

2.            The gasoline shall not be blended with alcohol's, ethers, or other oxygenates it shall not be blended with Aniline or its derivatives, nitro compounds, or other nitrogen containing compounds.

3.            No icing or cooling of fuel permitted in the pits or racing area,

4.            Fuel cell must be of a top feed type and must be securely installed in trunk compartment with 4 straps minimum 1/8 inch by 1 inch, 2 crosswise and 2 lengthwise. Cell must be mounted behind rear end and no lower than the bottom of frame rail. Fuel cell must be enclosed in minimum 16 gauge steel box.

5.            Filler spout must be completely inside trunk compartment . Fuel Cap must be tethered to fuel cell.

6.               Maximum fuel capacity will be 16 gallons.

7.            Fuel line may run inside driver compartment if it is securely enclosed inside steel tubing sealed at both ends.

8.            No electric fuel pumps, except for cars with Vega 140 engines which may run an electric fuel pump with tip-over valve, subject to Tech. approval.

9.            Bottom of the fuel cell can not be lower than the center of the rear end.

 

7.               STEERING & BRAKES

1.            No cutting or welding of any steering components. U-joints optional to replace rag joints only Solid rods must be used for all steering rods.

2.            Stock four wheel brakes are required and must be in good working order.

3.            No aftermarket or adjustable proportioning valves of any type will be permitted.

4.            No rear disk brakes are permitted.

5.            Center of steering wheel must be padded.

 

8.            ROLL BARS

1.            Steel roll over bars are compulsory and must be passed by the Cajon Speedway Tech. Inspectors.

2.            Roll cage must be a four point cage that extends the width of the frame with a minimum of three horizontal bars on the drivers side and three horizontal bars on the passenger side. No butt welds on door bars unless bars are bent. No more than 20 inch spread on door upright bars. Plated drivers side door bars are recommended. Spreader bars front and back mandatory. Entire cage must be constructed with a minimum of one and one-quarter (1 1/4) inch O.D. steel tubing with no less than .090 wall thickness.

3.            All four main upright bars must be fastened to floor of unit body with a minimum of 3/16 inch thick pad top and bottom of floor pan. All four pads must be 4 inches by 4 inches with four 3/8 inch bolts (minimum) in each pad.

4.            Rear hoop must be installed in trunk, behind fuel cell, with 45 degree kickers for cell protection.

5.               Speedway bars will be permitted and can not be connected to suspension.

6.            Front hoop allowed, no more than 4 bars in front of radiator 2 horizontal & 2 vertical.. Kickers allowed to own discretion, mounting behind radiator and in front of forward firewall. No more than four bars will be allowed thru firewall.

7.            A 1 3/4 inch tube or 1/2 inch by 1 inch square tubing may be mounted behind the fuel cell between the ends of the frame rails. No flat or angle stock will be permitted. A fuel cell protection bar must be mounted behind fuel cell.

8.            Roll bars must be padded with foam rubber at any point where the driver may make contact.

 

9.               WEIGHT

1.            All cars must weigh with a driver a minimum of 2100 pounds after the race. Any parts lost during the race can not be put back on before the car is weighted

2.            All bolt on weight must be painted while, stamped with car number and bolted securely no lower than the bottom of the frame member, subject to Tech. Approval. .No bolt on weights less than 5lbs Block.

3.            Track scales to be official weight.

 

10. ENGINES

1.            Engine must remain stock for make and model of chassis being used.

2.            Engine block must be of an in line 4 cylinder type. No Cosworth or dual overhead cam motors allowed.

3.            All engine sizes are limited to m absolute maximum of 156 cubic inches.

4.               Overbore size for all motors shall not exceed .060 inch from O.E.M. specifications.

5.            Cylinder compression is limited to an absolute maximum of 180 pounds, measured with track gauge.

6.               Crankshaft must be of stock factory production, cast iron or steel. Stroke may not be increased or decreased, Balancing is permitted.

7.            Rods must be of stock factory O.E.M. production. Polishing and shot peening of rods will be permitted.

8.               Aftermarket cams will be permitted.

9.            Lifters must be stock diameter from stock O.E.M. factory specifications. No roller rockers permitted.

10.          Valve springs must be of stock factory production width, stock type equivalent will be allowed. Dual type springs will be allowed.

11.          Stock single point ignition or stock type electronic ignition will be used. No magnetos, dual point distributors, or after market production distributors will be permitted.

12.          Heads may be ported and polished.

13.          Heads may be resurfaced or milled to raise compression.

14.          Oil pan may he enlarged, windage trays are permitted provided they are not oil scrapper types. Oil catch can recommended for oil breathers.

15.          No external oil pumps of any kind will be permitted.

16. Except as described all other internal engine parts must retain O.E.M. specifications, as to size, shape, weight, and finish.

 

11.               CARBURETOR & MANIFOLD

1.            All cars must use a box stock Holley Carburetor model #206 or #6549 or stock Holley replacement, Chrysler cars must use O.E.M. stock carburetor. (This is a NO touch carburetor) The only changes permitted are jets, power valve, and removal of choke assembly (re: butterfly plate and linkage assembly only). No cutting of any kind will be permitted. All carburetors must be approved by Tech. Inspector.

2.            Two (2) throttle return springs must be used, one on the carburetor, and one on the linkage. Turbo chargers, super chargers, or ram air of any kind will not be permitted. Stock type air cleaners, 3 inches high x 14 inch diameter max. paper elements only may he used (no K&N). intake manifold must be of an O.E.M. stock factory production only (Unmolested). If the intake manifold has a bolts on top of it must also remains stock (Unmolested). No porting or polishing. All special installations must be Tech. Approved.

3.            No "PCV" valves allowed on any part of the engine, including carburetor, E.G.R. plate, oil pan, valve cover, intake or exhaust manifolds. All unnecessary hose shall be removed and a plug will be installed in the E.G.R. plate and carburetor, no deviations.

 

12.               EXHAUST SYSTEM

1.            Factory production cast iron exhaust manifolds only will be permitted. Unmolested. No porting or polishing. No headers.

2.            Exhaust system will he a single exhaust that passes thru a muffler and exits behind the driver

3.            Single inlet/outlet street type muffler, turbo muffler, or glass pack may be used. Minimum dB level for all cars will be 90 at 100 feet and may be measured at any time.

 

13.               COOLING SYSTEM

1.            One radiator only and must be mounted in original position. Aluminum ok.

2.            A one gallon overflow catch can is required, mounted inside engine compartment.

3.            Water only permitted in cooling system. No antifreeze or oil of any kind will be permitted.

4.            Fan Shroud mandatory , All fan shrouds must have tops & sides. No fiberglass flex fans will he permitted. A lower air scope that does not exceed the width of the radiator and may extend to the front 5" only and must be tech. approved.

5.            All cars will have a working engine fan and shroud in stock location.

 

14. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

1.            One passenger car battery only. Battery must be located forward of the rear firewall.

2.            If battery is located inside passenger compartment, it must be fully enclosed in a steel box. All battery installations are subject to Tech. approval.

3.            All cars must have a kill switch clearly marked within the drivers reach and easily accessible from outside the car.

4.            All cars must have self starters in good working order and able to start the car at the beginning of each race meet.

5.            No radios are permitted in this class.

6.            No on-board computers allowed,

 

15. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

1.            Drivers side window net is mandatory.

2.            Nomex type fire retardant suit is mandatory. No nylon shoes allowed. No jackets or polyester clothing of any kind will be permitted.

3.            Fire extinguisher with charge indicator, 2 lb. minimum, mounted within drivers reach mandatory.

4.               Aluminum seat mandatory. Racing seat must be securely attached to roll cage, subject to Tech. approval.

5.            An approved five point seat belt with date stamped no more than three (3) years old. All belts must be fastened in an approved manner with a minimum of 3/8 inch aircraft bolts. All belts must have a secondary chain or cable hold downs in case of breakage. All seat belt attachments subject to Tech. Approval.

6.            Helmets must meet Snell 2000 Testing standard.

7.            Eye protection, helmet, belts, & drivers suit must he worn at any time you are on the racing surface.

8.            Master battery cutoff switch required in the negative cable. Cutoff switch must be mounted within easy reach of the driver and the safety crew and clearly marked ON/OFF

 

16. SEE RULE BOOK FOR OFFICIAL COMPRESSION CHECK RULES.

 

ALL CARS MUST HAVE THE CAR NUMBER PAINTED IN WHITE, MINIMUM OF 3 INCHES, ON THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD.

 

Interpretation of Rules

 

On misinterpretation of a rule, the official's interpretation shall be the official interpretation and will supersede any and all other possible interpretations. If you are in doubt on any rule, ask an official. The decision is to be in writing and given to the party requesting the decision of the interpretation. Where there is no specific rule to govern the occasion the official's decision will be final. . . IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE.

 

Any modification not covered in these rules will not be allowed unless approved by the Cajon Speedway Chief Steward.

 

We intend for all cars to be competing with each other. if you do something to your car that these rules have overlooked that we feel gives you an advantage or edge over other competitors, YOU will be required to change YOUR CAR.

"The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events, these rules shall govern the condition of all Cajon Speedway events, and. by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules and/or regulations, they are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury, or death to participants, spectators, or others."

 

Any part or equipment found during an inspection or any other time at anytime at a NASCAR sanctioned event that does not meet applicable NASCAR standards, must be surrendered to the NASCAR official at that time, and will not be returned. Failing to do so will result in; a fine, and/or loss of championship points, and/or definite or indefinite suspension from NASCAR.
